Skoda Karoq launch date revealed: Bookings now open
After a long time, Skoda Auto India had participated in the Auto Expo and had showcased their existing as well as upcoming products for the Indian market. One such product that was showcased at the Expo was the Karoq SUV. Skoda will be launching the Karoq in the Indian market next month. The Karoq SUV will be placed below the Kodiaq and is likely to compete with cars like Jeep Compass and Hyundai Tucson in the Indian market. Before the official launch, Skoda has begun taking bookings for the upcoming Kodiaq SUV.
Skoda Auto has commenced pre-booking option for the SUV and this can be done via any of the authorised Skoda dealerships across the country and also on the Skoda Auto India website. The booking amount for the Karoq SUV is Rs 50,000 and this amount is refundable. SKoda has announced that they will start delivering the Karoq SUV to customers from 06 May 2020.
Talking to the media, Mr. Zac Hollis, Brand Director, Skoda Auto India, said, “Our SUV model range caters to a growing class of discerning customers with the taste for luxury as well as the right ‘value for money’ proposition. While retaining its strong family characteristics, the much-anticipated Karoq will continue to drive Skoda Auto’s success in India.”
Skoda Karoq SUV is based of MQB platform. The same platform is seen in other SUV’s like Volkswagen T-Roc which was also showcased at the Expo and will be launching it soon in the market. The Karoq is a bold looking SUV with design elements similar to that of bigger 7-seater SUV Kodiaq. The Karoq will be brought and sold in India as a CBU initially.
The Karoq will offer a host of features like panoramic sunroof, fully digital instrument cluster or virtual cockpit as Skoda calls it, LED headlights, sporty alloy wheels, touchscreen infotainment system along with safety features like ABS and nine airbags. Skoda Karoq will be only available with a single engine option. It will be a 1.5 litre TSI petrol engine mated to a seven speed DSG gearbox. It will generate a maximum of 150 PS and 250 Nm of torque. Skoda has also started taking booking for the Skoda Rapid 1.0 TSI and will commence the deliveries from 14th April 2020. The Rapid TSI replaces the TDI diesel variants of the car. Going forward, Skoda will phase out diesel engined cars from India, instead replacing it with turbocharged petrol engined ones, and also petrol-hybrid options. Electric cars are yet to be announced though.
