Tata HBX (Renault Kwid-challenger) launch time revealed

Tata showcased the all-new HBX concept at the 2020 Auto Expo earlier this year. The all-new car, which will become the entry-level SUV from the brand will take on the likes of Renault Kwid, Maruti Suzuki S-Presso. Tata’s HBX concept is more than 97% production-ready, which means the production version of the car will be very similar to the concept model. Tata revealed that the car will be launched soon and now we have a definite timeline on the launch of the all-new HBX.

According to ACI, the new HBX will be launched in the Indian market in the 2021 Financial year, which means it will be launched before 1st April 2021. It should be noted that the launch might have been pushed to a later date due to the Coronavirus impact on the assembly lines in India. Almost all the assembly lines and production facilities in India have stopped working and there will be an immense impact on the industry. At the time of the showcase of the HBX, Tata announced that the car will be launched by the end of this year.

The Tata HBX production version will be heavily inspired by the design of the Harrier. It will be the second car to be built on the ALFA Arc platform that already underpins the all-new Tata Altroz. The new HBX will offer an intimidating look with muscular front-end design, spliced headlamps unit and flared wheel arches. Just like the Tata Harrier, the HBX will offer sleek LED DRLs that extend from the grille of the car while the main headlamp unit will be positioned on the lower side of the bumper. Overall, the car will have an intimidating look. The cabin will be very much inspired by the Altroz and will have highlighted AC vents to add a sporty touch. The car will get the floating-type infotainment system too.

Tata has not said anything about the engine options that will power the all-new HBX in the Indian market yet. However, we may get to see the 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine debuting with the car. The lower-end versions will get powered by the naturally-aspirated 1.2-litre petrol engine that also powers the likes of Tata Altroz, Tata Tiago and Tata Tigor. Tata will not offer a diesel engine option with the car. However, the AMT automatic transmission will be available with the HBX.

It should be noted that Tata is also working on an electrified vehicles line-up. The brand has already launched the all-new Nexon EV in the market and the next vehicles are expected to be the Altroz EV. In a few years, we will get to see the HBX EV too!
