1 out of 10 cars sold in India is a Kia, thanks to the Seltos & Carnival

South Korean car manufacturer Kia Motors had made their debut in the Indian market last year. The brand quickly became popular among the buyers. Their first product in the market was Seltos mid-size SUV. It had played a huge role in anchoring Kia as a brand in India. The Seltos is now a very common sight on our roads. When Seltos had completed 6 months Kia launched their next product Kia Carnival in which is a luxury MPV in the market and even that is doing well in terms of numbers. The brand has become so popular in the country that 1 out of every 10 cars sold in the country is a Kia.

It is a known fact that we Indians have a soft corner for SUVs. Almost every manufacturer in the country has an SUV for that reason. It is one of the segment among cars that sells like hot cakes. Kia Motors did their homework before launching their first product and only then came to a conclusion for coming up with Seltos. Off lately MPVs have also started gaining popularity and we have seen many manufacturers entering this segment with cars of different shapes and size. We have cars like Triber at one end Mercedes-Benz V-Class on the other end.

It has almost been 8 months since the Seltos was launched in India and the brand has sold 81,716 units of Seltos SUV in the market. It is a huge number specially for a new brand. 3,187 units of Kia Carnival MPV has also been sold in just over 2 months. With this Kia Motors is now at 4th largest UV seller in the market. First three positions belong to Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra and Hyundai respectively.

The main reason behind the popularity of the Seltos is the price at which it is offered. It is offered in over 18 variants, which means there is a Seltos for every buyer. It is available in three engine options – one diesel and two petrol. All the three engine options are available with manual and automatic gearbox as options. The bold design and the features where the other factors that helped Seltos become popular.

Similarly Carnival is launched in a price range where it has no direct competition. It is way more luxurious and spacious than the Toyota Innova Crysta which is one of the favourite MPV in the country at the same time is less expensive than other options like Mercedes-Benz V-Class and Toyota Vellfire. The current situation in the country has affected the automobile industry too and the numbers are likely to go up once the Corona virus situation improves. Kia will also be launching their their product a sub-4 meter compact SUV based on Sonet concept showcased at expo this year.
