2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA fails the moose test [video]
Mercedes-Benz one the popular luxury car brand in India has a range of cars in their line up. The CLA from Mercedes-Benz has been the entry level 4 door sedan sold by the brand and it recently got an update. The new update has made the CLA more sportier, aggressive and premium from the outside. It continues to have that signature sloping roof design that falls and meets with the boot at the rear. The 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA is also longer than the older generation. Here we have a video that shows the 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA sedan performs in a moose test.
The video has been uploaded by km77.com on their youtube channel. They are known for conducting such test on vehicles to know the car would perform in case of an emergency. The moose test is a method to check how fastly can a car maneuver when it faces with emergency direction changes. In this test the driver pushes the car to a certain speed and then suddenly swerves car to a left lane and then back to the right lane to know how stable the car is under such situation. Well, for the Mercedes-Benz things did not go well.
The test was done in a closed environment with cones placed as obstacles. The driver had to swerve the car at a certain speed and had to come out without hitting the cones. The 2020 CLA had done many runs with different drivers and at different speeds. The result were not looking good as CLA had only come out without hitting the cones only once.
The first round was conducted at a constant 76 kmph. The moment driver suddenly moved the steering to the left there was a lose of grip at the front and lot of understeer. It had hit the cones and when the driver brought it back to the right lane, it behaved the same way and hit the cones. Other rounds were conducted at 73 kmph and 68 kmph mark and the results were pretty much the same.
The best run they had with the CLA was when it was driven at a constant speed of 66 kmph. The car felt planted at that speed and did not create much drama and came out without hitting any of the cones. This was the only time when it came out without hitting the cone in the whole video. Km77.com given CLA a poor rating when it cmes to moose test.
The CLA is a good looking 4-door sedan and will be launching in the Indian market soon. It is likely to get a 1.3 litre turbo petrol and a 1.5 litre turbo diesel engine. With all the updates the price for the 2020 CLA is likely to go up. An AMG version of the same will also be available in the country.
