MG Hector Plus 6/7-seater delayed: New launch timeline revealed
MG Motors showcased the six-seater version of the Hector at the Auto Expo. The new car named as the Hector Plus was expected to be launched in the Indian market in April but due to the spread of coronavirus and subsequent lockdown, the launch has been pushed. The new car is now expected to be launched in June 2020.
The new MG Hector Plus will offer three-row seating option with captain seats or bench seats depending on the version in the middle row. As per CNB, the Hector Plus is currently expected to be launched in June but it can be delayed depending on the situation. When allowed to start functioning and start the operations at its plant, the manufacturer wants to reach 70-80% of the normal production rate before launching the Hector Plus. The current prediction is that the production is expected to become 70% of the normal by June.
The MG Hector will be available in two configurations in the Indian market. There will be a six-seater version of the SUV with captain seats in the middle row while the seven-seater version of the car will get the bench seats. Both will be launched at the same time. The six-seater version will be more premium and will be priced higher than the other variants of the Hector and Hector Plus.
The MG Hector Plus will similar dimensions as the five-seater version of the car. However, the dimensions are slightly larger than the five-seater version. In terms of looks, both MG Hector Plus and the Hector look almost identical. There are a few minor changes in the SUV including a different grille, which now gets blacked out boundary instead of the chrome and a new set of LED daytime running lamps (DRLs). MG Hector Plus will also offer slightly tweaked headlamps that look much more aggressive. The body cladding has been deleted.
The list of features in both vehicles will also remain identical. MG will offer a long list of features with the Hector Plus including the panoramic sunroof, the large internet-connected infotainment system, voice commands and more of such features. MG may also offer a few extra features since the Hector Plus will be priced higher.
On the engine front, the Hector Plus will get both the petrol and diesel engine option from the Hector. The petrol variants will get powered by the 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine that will come with a manual as well as a 7-speed DCT automatic while the diesel variants will get powered by the 2.0-litre engine that will get the manual transmission only.
