2020 Skoda Rapid 1.0 TSI & Superb Facelift luxury sedan launched

Skoda Auto India today launched their updated C-segment sedan Rapid and the facelifted luxury sedan – Superb – in the Indian market. Both the cars, along with the all-new Karoq SUV, were launched in a virtual conference. Skoda Rapid is a sedan than competes with cars like Maruti Ciaz, Honda City and Hyundai Verna in the C segment. Prices for Skoda Rapid 1.0 litre TSI start from Rs 7.49 lakh, ex-showroom, and the price for the luxurious, facelifted Superb sedan start from Rs 29.99 lakh ex-showroom. Both the cars are available only with a petrol engine as part of Skoda’s new brand philosophy.

Skoda Rapid Monte Carlo 1.0 Tsi

Starting with the Rapid, the basic design of the car remains the same as before. It has a signature grille at the front with Skoda badging, sharp design and sporty looking alloy wheels. On the inside, the car gets the same dashboard layout as before with touchscreen infotainment screen and other features. The main attraction in BS6 complaint Rapid is the engine itself. It is powered by a 1.0 litre three cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that generates a maximum power of 110 PS and 175 Nm of peak torque. The new engine generates 5 percent more power and 14 percent more torque that the older 1.6 litre MPI engine. The new engine makes Rapid more fuel efficient as it returns 18.97 kmpl, which is a full 23 percent more than before. Skoda Rapid is available in Rider, Ambition, Onyx, Style and Monte Carlo variants. Prices start at Rs 7.49 lakh and go up till Rs 11.79 lakh ex-showroom.

Also launched today is the facelifted Superb luxury sedan from Czech manufacturer. The Superb has always been a good looking sedan in the segment. The facelifted version gets minor changes in the front grille, bumper and an all-LED headlamps. The facelifted Superb also gets chrome inserts at places to give it a premium touch. On the inside, Superb gets new features such as fully digital instrument cluster, wireless phone charging and an updated touchscreen infotainment screen. Apart from all these features, it continues to get key features such as ventilated seats, panoramic sunroof, handsfree parking and three-zone climate control.

Just like in the Rapid, the biggest change on the Superb it’s petrol-only avatar, powered by the 2.0 litre TSI engine. It replaces the older 1.8 litre unit and is much more powerful too. The new 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine generates a maximum power of 190 PS and 320 Nm of peak torque, and is mated to a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission. Even though the power and torque figures are higher than before, the Superb has become 3 percent more fuel efficient and returns 15.10 kilometres to a litre. It is available in Sportline and Laurin & Klement variants. The price for facelifted Superb starts at Rs 29.99 lakh and goes up to Rs 32.99 lakh ex-showroom.
