Jeep Compass 7-seater SUV: launch details revealed

Jeep as a brand entered in the market in Indian market few years ago and they have couple of SUVs on offer too. The most popular and affordable SUV in the line up is obviously the Compass which competes with SUVs like Tata Harrier, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Seltos, MG Hector in the segment. Jeep is also working on a 7-seater version of the Jeep Compass for quite some time and now there are reports that confirm the launch of the 7-seater in Indian market.

According to Evo India, Jeep is currently working on the 7-seater SUV which is code-named as Low D 3-row and will be launching it in the second quarter of the 2021. Before launching the seven seater version of the Compass, Jeep will also give the regular Compass a much needed facelift. The report also suggests that the seven-seater version of the Compass will be known as ‘Grand Compass’, which will help them as Compass is already a well established name in the market.

The upcoming seven-seater SUV or the Grand Compass is likely to get a longer wheelbase and will also be competing with SUVs like recently launched Tiguan AllSpace and Skoda Kodiaq. This also indicates that the Grand Compass will be expensive than the 5-seater version. It will be based on the Small wide 4×4 platform which is also used in the Compass and will be built in Jeep’s Ranjangaon facility near Pune. This will help them keep the cost of the Grand Compass in check.

The seven-seater Compass is likely to look the same as soon to be launched facelifted Compass. The noticeable difference would be at the side profile where it will have a longer wheelbase to accommodate the last row of seat. The Jeep Grand Compass is likely to be offered with a petrol and diesel engine option and just like the 5-seater Compass, Jeep will offer the 4×4 option in this too.

After the launch of Grand Compass, Jeep will launch a sub-4 meter compact SUV as that is a very popular segment in India. The sub-4 meter SUV will be placed below Renegade and will be the cheapest Jeep offering in the country. Jeep wants volumes in the Indian market, and the sub-4 meter compact SUV is a step in that direction.
