Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupe, updated GT R launched in India

The second and third models to arrive this year from Mercedes-AMG, the C 63 Coupe and GT R have launched in India at Rs 1.33 crore and Rs 2.48 crore, respectively. These two coupes are the range-topping, high-performance versions of the C-class and GT line-up in our market. Both are available to purchase via select Mercedes-Benz dealerships and through the brand’s online retail platform.

What is the Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupe?

If the all-wheel drive Mercedes-AMG C 43 Coupe wasn't spicy enough for you, the new C 63 Coupe could be of interest. It's powered by a 476hp and 650Nm version of AMG’s 4.0-litre biturbo V8 petrol engine and, importantly, all the power is channeled to the rear wheels via a 9-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox. Mercedes-AMG claims a 0-100kph time of 4sec, while the top speed is an electronically limited 250kph.

The C 63 Coupe looks the business with aggressive AMG-spec body work, a “Panamericana” grille, a carbon-fibre lip spoiler on the boot and blacked-out 18-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels. There are 19-inch wheels also on offer for a premium. Inside, there's seating for four though rear seat space is limited. The C 63 Coupe gets kit like a 12.3-inch all-digital instrument cluster (with three AMG specific displays – Classic, Sporty and Supersport), AMG-spec drive and traction modes and AMG Ride Control, which allows the user to change the suspension setup. In addition, features like active parking assist, ventilated AMG sport seats with a memory function and a Burmester sound system are also standard.

Till such time the next-gen M3 goes on sale in India, the C 63 Coupe won't have any direct rival in our market. However, the Mercedes C 63 Coupe's Rs 1.33 crore price tag puts it in the same price band as the recently refreshed Jaguar F-Type. Mercedes-Benz India also offers the C 63 Coupe with its Star Ease Compact Package, which allows prospective buyers to own the model for as low as Rs 97,000 for 2 years and unlimited kilometres.

What’s new on the 2020 Mercedes-AMG GT R?

The AMG GT R gets an update for 2020. Mechanically the 2020 GT R is no different – power still comes from the 4.0-litre V8 engine that produces 585hp and 700Nm of torque. In the GT R, a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox in standard fit. 0-100kph is dispatched in the claimed 3.6sec and the top speed is 318kph.

Mercedes-Benz has added a few features to its fastest production car though. These include new LED headlights and tail-lights, a slightly re-designed exhaust and rear diffuser, a new steering, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch infotainment system that's Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatible.

The 2020 Mercedes-AMG GT R has been priced at Rs 2.48 crore, which is about Rs 25 lakh more than the 2017 model.

All prices are ex-showroom, pan-India
