Suzuki Jimny modified to serve the army is the perfect Maruti Gypsy replacement [Video]

For many years, Maruti Suzuki Gypsy was the SUV used by army and border forces in India. Over the period of time, Gypsy was replaced with Tata Safari. Maruti Suzuki is now planning to start manufacturing the Jimny in India for export market. Jimny can be called as the successor of recently discontinued Gypsy. Suzuki is currently selling the fourth generation of Jimny SUV in International market and is an SUV that has a huge demand. Maruti Suzuki might launch Jimny in Indian market in couple of years after they start producing it locally. Here we have a render video, that shows the current generation Jimny that is designed to look like an army-spec vehicle.

The video has been uploaded by Indian Autos Blog on their Youtube channel. The video starts by changing the colour of the Jimny. The video uses the short wheelbase Sierra version for the render. The whole SUV gets a shade of army green including the steel rims. The artist had made some changes to the SUV to make it look like an army spec vehicle.

Starting at the front, artist had replaced the stock Suzuki grille and logo with another unit. The front grille now has horizontal strips in it. The shape of the headlight remains the same but they are now protected by a metal guard. The bumper of the SUV remains the same with no changes made to it. The windows in the army version are smaller for protection of the officers inside.

The windshield and all the windows are resized and get a metal guard install on the outside for better protection of the occupants. The render also has four auxiliary lamps installed on top of the roof. Overall the render looks butch and reminds of Mercedes G-Wagen from certain angle. It’ll be a great replacement for the Maruti Gypsy.

As and when Maruti launches the Jimny in India, there is a possibility that we would get a longer wheelbase 5-door version, instead of this 3-door version. The engine that it will use would be the in-house developed 1.5 litre petrol engine that puts out 102 PS and 130 Nm of torque. The engine is likely to be paired with a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic gearbox. Maruti is likely to start the production of Jimny in India once the current situation improves. The Suzuki factory at Sanand is expected to produce the Jimny in India from the end of this year.
