Toyota Innova Crysta BS6 gets new safety features as standard

Toyota Innova has been one of the most popular and best selling MPV in our country. It has been in the market for quite some time and has been a popular choice among the buyers because of its reliability, lower cost of maintenance, space and comfort it offers. Like all the other manufacturers, Toyota also launched the updated BS6 compliant version of the Toyota Innova Crysta in the market earlier this year. Toyota has now silently included couple of more safety features in the Innova Crysta MPV as standard.

Toyota has now included Hill Start Assist (HSA) and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) safety features as standard in the BS6 version of Innova Crysta. From the outside, the MPV remains unchanged. Toyota Innova continues to get the same premium looking MPV design with chrome inserted front grille, projector headlamps, wide air dam, alloy wheels and so on.

On the inside, the Innova Crysta offers features like captain seats, spacious and comfortable interior, touchscreen infotainment system, cruise control and so on. The newly added safety features are addition to the airbags, ABS and reverse parking sensor which were already coming with the car as standard.

With BS6 update major difference was made to the engine department of the Crysta. The BS4 version of Innova Crysta was powered by a 2.7 litre petrol and a 2.8 litre turbo diesel engine. The 2.8 litre turbocharged diesel engine was replaced with a smaller capacity 2.4 litre unit to keep the cost of the car down in this BS6 transition.

The 2.7 litre petrol unit generates a maximum of 164 Bhp and 245 Nm of torque. The 2.4 litre turbo diesel engine 148 Bhp and 343 Nm of peak torque. Both petrol and diesel variants get an automatic transmission as option. The price of the Innova Crysta did increase with the BS6 update and the price for this MPV now starts at Rs 15.13 lakh and goes all the way up to Rs 23.67 lakh (all prices ex-showroom) for the top-end Touring Sport trim. Toyota has discontinued the Innova 2.8 Diesel. The 2.8 liter diesel engine has been made BS6 compliant only on the Fortuner luxury SUV. The lack of the 2.8 diesel engine on the BS6 Innova Crysta isn’t likely to affect sales though as buyers of this MPV don’t really care about peak power and torque. Current situation in the country has definitely affected the sales of vehicles in the Indian market. The things are likely to improve once the nationwide lockdown is lifted.
