2020 Toyota Fortuner Facelift officially REVEALED: Launch in India soon

Toyota has been working on the facelifted version of the second-generation Fortuner for a long time now. While there are many spy shots that have been spotted on the Internet, the manufacturer has officially revealed the seven-seater SUV in the Thailand market. The all-new Fortuner was launched in the global markets in 2015 and this is the first update on the car since then.

The new Fortuner facelift gets a few styling updates as well as a new engine in the Thailand market. The SUV gets a new face and redesigned LED headlamps that also have reshaped LED daytime running lamps. The grille has become more aggressive-looking with a larger mesh-pattern. Also, Toyota has updated the front bumper, which makes the SUV look much more modern and different from the current version of the car.

On the side, there are not many changes. It looks identical to the current version of the Fortuner except for the newly designed 18-inch alloy wheels. The rear gets a few changes as well. However, the biggest attention-grabber in the rear is the new slimmer-looking tail lamps.

In the Thailand market, Toyota has also introduced a new, ‘Legender’ model that gets a sportier look and offer aggressive design. It has a split grille with a different bumper and sequential turn indicators. The headlamps get dual LED projector lamps with a unique pattern for the DRLs. Also, there is a gloss-black finish that replaces the chrome from every inch of the SUV. Even the alloy wheels are bigger and are of 20-inches. The dual-tone paint scheme and glossy elements make the Fortuner Legender look quite different from the regular version. The Legender is unlikely to make it to the Indian market.

Just like the exterior, Toyota has worked on the cabin of the facelifted Fortuner too. However, the changes are not extensive. There is a larger 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that now gets Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity systems. The instrument cluster has been updated too. Other new features include a new 8-way power-adjustable driver and co-driver seat and wireless smartphone charging. The SUV also gets LED ambient lighting system, 9-speaker system from JBL, 360-degree camera and more. The Legender version of the Fortuner gets a larger 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

There is a slew of safety equipment too, which are unlikely to be available with the Indian version of the SUV. It including 7 airbag system, radar-guided dynamic cruise control system, collision prevention system, lane departure system and more such features. There is also a Variable Flow Control system that varies the steering weight depending on the flow of the SUV.

In Thailand, Toyota offers 2.4-litre four-cylinder diesel making 150 PS and 400 Nm and 2.8-litre making 204 PS and 500 Nm. The Indian market gets the 2.8-litre diesel engine only, which produces a maximum power of 177 PS and 450 Nm of torque. In India, you can also expect the same 2.7-litre petrol engine to continue too.

Toyota is likely to introduce the new Fortuner in the Indian market by 2021. Recently, the Fortuner BS6 was introduced by the manufacturer with a price hike of Rs 48,000 across the variants. The arrival of the new Fortuner will further see a price increase.
