Harley-Davidson lays off 140 employees in the US
Harley-Davidson will cut about 140 jobs in the United States, following a decision to adjust production volumes and subsequently, its workforce. A company representative has mentioned that 90 production workers at the company’s plant in York, Pennsylvania, and 50 at its Tomahawk factory in Wisconsin, will be laid off.
Earlier this year, the company witnessed some significant changes in management and its business plan going forward. Matt Levatich stepped down as CEO, following five consecutive years of falling revenues. He was replaced by director Jochen Zeitz, who took on the role of acting CEO. Under Zeitz’s leadership, Harley-Davidson announced a new business strategy plan called “Rewire” - one which lays out the steps for the company’s revised five-year plan. However, the coronavirus pandemic is likely to have taken a toll on its execution and on sales, forcing the manufacturer to cut jobs. Production at the two facilities also came to a halt for a brief period, during the pandemic.
The source reports that Harley-Davidson sales in the US for the first quarter of the year dropped 16 percent compared to a year ago as the pandemic-induced lockdowns forced about half of its dealers to temporarily close their stores. The source article also mentions that Harley-Davidson is trying to preserve cash by slashing capital spending, putting a hold on hiring, reducing salaries and eliminating merit increases for employees.

ReplyDeletetoday I saw something that was truly troubling. there was this guy that looked like he belong on a Harley Electra glide or a Honda goldwing. he looked like he should be cruising down the highway at 85 to a hundred miles an hour. he had to look, he had the build he had the tan my God I think he even had the hair. but guess where this guy was? he was standing at a busy intersection with a little sign that said food or money please anything helps. he had a simple backpack. it look like he really was out on the road. leaning up against the street sign at the corner of the intersection was the backpack. and as he walked along I saw someone hold a folded bill of money out their car window. and the guy walked over in the middle of traffic and took the money and said thank you. he didn't say God bless you which is beginning to become so passe you don't even want to hear it. and he walked back over to the curb. and started looking at it at each and every car for more money. now i sort of hope that that Harley is hiding around the corner somewhere and he's basically going to get back on the road. but I got the disturbing impression that there was no Harley. that this guy was basically begging for money. what has happened to us?
