Jeep delivers India’s first Wrangler Rubicon off-road SUV

American SUV manufacturer Jeep made their entry in the Indian market with the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee SUVs back in 2016. While these SUVs were completely built units (CBU) imported from the United States , the made-in-India Jeep Compass was launched a year later, in 2017. Earlier this year, Jeep launched the all-new Wrangler Rubicon SUV and surprisingly even after being an expensive 5-door SUV, Jeep managed to sell the first lot in just around 2 weeks time. Deliveries for the same were planned to happen by mid-March but due to the spread of Corona virus and the lockdown followed by it, Jeep had to delay the process. Now, manufacturers have started resuming operations at their dealerships and the first Jeep Rubicon has been delivered to the customer in Bangalore.

 

The Jeep Wrangler is sold in India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) and is available in a 5-door version only. Internationally, a 3-door version of Rubicon is also available. Jeep Wrangler Rubicon is priced at Rs 68.94 lakh, ex-showroom which makes it way more expensive than most other off-road SUVs sold by any other brand in the country, barring the Mercedes G63 AMG.

The Jeep Wrangler name has always been connected with extreme off-roading and the Rubicon version is no different. It is a rugged looking SUV with with off-road capabilities up its sleeve. It is powered by a 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine generating a maximum of 265 Ps and 400 Nm of peak torque. The Rubicon engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and also gets a proper 4×4 transfer case. In comparison to the regular Wrangler, Rubicon is more off-road oriented vehicle and gets more features like better approach and departure angle, more ground clearance, an electronically controlled sway bars, crawl mode in low-ratio and so on.

On the inside, it does not compromise on the comfort part and offers features such as cruise control, dual zone climate control, keyless entry, plush interiors, touchscreen infotainment screen, rear parking camera, TPMS etc. Jeep will be delivering rest of the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon to the customers in days to come.

Jeep is also working on a facelift for their popular mid-size SUV Compass and it is likely to be launched in the market later this year. An updated version with minor changes was recently launched in the European market but, the Indian version is likely to see more changes in terms of styling. Jeep will also be launching a 7-seater version in the second quarter of 2021 and is likely to be known as Grand Compass.
