Maruti Suzuki petrol vs diesel calculator: Have you checked it out yet?

Choosing between a petrol or a diesel car has always been a dilemma for most people buying a new car in India. With the rising price of fuel and the difference between the price of petrol and diesel fuel almost becoming negligible, customers find it difficult to choose the fuel type of their new cars. Well, Maruti Suzuki has now introduced a calculator that will help you to calculate how much you will save on buying a petrol car and how much time you will need to recover the money and enjoy the benefits of a diesel car based on your daily driving.

The new tool on the official website of Maruti Suzuki allows you to choose your city, car type, daily usage and loan amount. It then shows how much time it will take to recover the extra money that you pay for a diesel variant of the car.

Now, if you do a total of 50 km per day and take a loan of 80% of the ex-showroom price of the car for 5 years at 9% rate, you will have to drive the car for a minimum of 10 years 7 months to recover the cost that you spent extra for a diesel car. Higher running per day will bring down the number of years but it remains substantial.

Yes, diesel cars are much more expensive to buy and also cost more when it comes to servicing. Even with higher fuel efficiency, you have to spend a lot of years driving the car to recover the cost extra cost of the vehicle.

Notably, Maruti Suzuki has discontinued their diesel vehicles from the Indian market after the BS6 emission norms. Maruti Suzuki is India’s largest car manufacturer and it sells only petrol vehicles now. A few years back, Honda used to offer only petrol cars in the Indian market but during that time, the price difference between the petrol and diesel fuel was much higher and allowed the owners to recover the extra cost a lower period of time. Maruti Suzuki is currently limping back to post monthly sales after the lockdown due to the COVID-19 in India. Last month, the manufacturer sold 13,865 units of their vehicles, which is a fraction of their average monthly sales. Now that the country is under Unlock 1.0 and the businesses are opening again, we may get to see the manufacturers doing better in the month of June.
