Maruti Swift to get more POWERFUL & go hybrid: Details
Maruti Suzuki Swift is without any doubt one of the most popular hatchbacks in the country. It is a car that is equally loved by family car buyers and the youth. It has been selling in the country for 15 years and we currently have the third generation Swift, which was first showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo. It competes with cars such as the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and Ford Figo in the segment. Just like any other manufacturer, Maruti has also updated Swift to meet BS6 emission norms. Now, according to some reports, Maruti will be soon launching the Swift with the new 1.2 litre DualJet petrol engine.
The 1.2 litre DualJet petrol engine is the same unit that we have seen in Maruti’s premium hatchback Baleno in the past. What this means is that with the introduction of this new engine, Swift will now get Maruti’s Smart Hybrid system (SHVS) which basically acts as a torque assist and also helps in increasing the fuel efficiency. In comparison to the current version, the DualJet engine will make more power and will also help with the fuel economy part because of SHVS system. The DualJet engine generates a maximum of 89 Bhp and 113 Nm of torque. Maruti Suzuki is expected to launch this 1.2 litre DualJet engine version in the coming months.

The Swift was earlier available in both petrol and diesel engine. When the BS6 emission norms came into effect from April 2020, Maruti discontinued all their diesel engines including the 1.3 litre Fiat sourced engine that powered almost all their cars including the Swift. The Swift is now available with a BS6 compliant 1.2 litre VVT petrol engine that generates 82 Bhp and 113 Nm of torque. It comes with both manual and AMT gearbox options.
Maruti Suzuki recently celebrated 15 glorious years of Swift hatchback. it was launched back in 2005 and over the period of 15 years, Maruti has sold over 2.2 million units across the country. It is even sold internationally and a sportier version of Swift is available in other markets. Even though Maruti will be launching the new 1.2 litre DualJet petrol engine, it is not known whether they would completely discontinue the current version or would they be selling both the versions along side giving customer an option to choose from.
