Other changes made to the SUV include removing the fog lamps and replacing the alloy wheels with steel rims. The reason behind this is that, police forces does not go for features and looks, what they look for is the practicality of the SUV. These SUVs are purchased in huge numbers and removing such features which is of not that importance will also help such authorities save money.
Apart from all these changes, the front grille on the rendered Thar gets red and blue accents along with a Dial 100 sticker on the bonnet. No other changes are made to the SUV in video. All new Mahindra Thar is a new vehicle and is based on an entirely new platform. It is now wider and longer than the older generation which helps in providing more space on the inside. It is available in both front facing and side facing seat configurations and the Police version is likely to get the side facing seat version.
In terms of engine and transmission, it is available with a petrol engine for the first time. It is powered by a 2.0 litre mStallion turbo petrol unit generating 150 bhp and 320 Nm of torque. The 2.2 litre mHawk turbocharged diesel engine generates 130 Bhp and 320 Nm of torque. Both petrol and diesel engines get manual and automatic gearbox options along with a proper 4×4 transfer case.
