Tata Harrier Dark Edition gets cheaper with the addition of new trims
Tata Motors has launched the Harrier Dark Edition in XT and XT+ trim, making the Dark Edition model more accessible. The new trims are priced Rs. 1.35 lakh and Rs. 1.8 lakh cheaper than the XZ and XZ+ trims that the Dark Edition was exclusively sold in previously. While the Tata Harrier Dark Edition XT is priced at Rs. 16.5 lakh, the XT+ Dark Edition is priced at Rs. 17.3 lakh. In comparison, the XZ and XZ+ Dark Edition trims of the SUV are priced at Rs. 17.85 and Rs. 19.1 lakh respectively.
The Harrier Dark Edition trims refers to an all-black paint finish on the outside and inside of the SUV, making it look a lot meaner. Lots of buyers are preferring the Dark Edition of the Harrier, prompting Tata Motors to introduce this paint scheme in multiple variants. Tata Motors also has plans to launch the Dark Edition paint finish on multiple cars such as the Tiago, Altroz and Nexon.
Coming back to the Harrier, key features on offer in the XT variant include a 7 inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, twin airbags, cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, dual-function LED DRLs with integrated turn indicators, push-button start/stop, auto headlamps, and a 6-way adjustable driver seat. The XT+ trim adds a panoramic sunroof to the equation.

The engine and gearbox combination on both variants remain unchanged. The Harrier XT and XT+ Dark Editions are powered by a 2 liter-4 cylinder Fiat Multijet turbocharged diesel engine with 170 PS of peak power and 350 Nm of peak torque. A 6 speed manual gearbox drives the front wheels of the SUV. The Harrier is also available with a 6 speed automatic transmission on XM, XZ and XZ+ trims. The diesel engine of the Harrier is Bharat Stage 6 (BS6) emission norms compliant.
The Tata Harrier witnessed a spurt in sales in September 2020. Tata Motors dispatched 1,755 units to dealers across India in September 2020, which is an 86 % increase when compared to sales in September 2019 (814 units). Tata sold 1,694 units of the Harrier last month. The addition of the automatic gearbox, features, new trims and paint finishes seem to have given Harrier sales a big shot in the arm. Moreover, the impending festive season could be another big reason for Tata Motors increasing wholesale dispatches of the SUV to dealers across the country. Rivals of the Tata Harrier include the MG Hector, Mahindra XUV500 and Jeep Compass. In price terms, the Harrier also overlaps with smaller SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.
