Tata Harrier is now the pilot car of CM Uddhav Thackeray [Video]

Launched last year and updated earlier this year, the Tata Harrier has become a popular choice in the market. The made-in-India Tata Harrier has a huge fan following in India and there are many who feel proud to own this made-in-India, made-for-India car. Tata cars have always had a massive presence on the Indian roads. Starting with the Safari, the Tata SUVs became extremely popular, especially with the politicians. However, after the Safari, not many Tata SUVs became as popular with the politicians. Recently, Uddhav Thackerey, the 19th chief minister of Maharashtra has started using Tata SUVs in his convoy and they look extremely badass.

The convoy gets several all-black Tata Harrier SUVs guarding the main vehicle. Even the pilot car of the convoy is a black coloured ata Harrier. These are not the black edition Harrier SUVs as many have pointed. They are just black coloured Harrier base XE variant. This is the only chief minister’s convoy in India to have several Tata Harrier SUVs. There are three of them as we counted in the video. Also, there are several other made-in-India cars like the Mahindra TUV300 and the XUV500.

There are also a few Land Rover Range Rover SUVs in the same convoy while Uddhav Thackerey himself travels in a Mercedes-Benz S-Class. It is not known if it is an armoured vehicle or not. The Maharashtra Police officially acquired several TUV300 SUVs and those can be spotted in the convoy as well.

The Tata Harrier SUV is a mid-size SUV that was launched last year and was updated earlier this year with a more powerful engine. Tata has also added several new features to the car and has made it more up to date in the market.

This is the first time that a police force or a government security detail is using the Tata Harrier. The mid-size SUV is made on a completely new OMEGA-Arc platform that is derived from the Land Rover’s D8 platform. It gets powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine that now produces a maximum power of 170 PS and peak torque of 350 Nm. Before the facelift, the Harrier used to produce a maximum of 140 PS and a peak torque of 350 Nm. It only came with a 6-speed manual transmission before the pre-facelift version while the latest iteration of the car also offers a 6-speed automatic transmission and various additional features like a panoramic sunroof.

It should be noted that these Tata Harrier SUVs are registered on November 26, 2019, which is just two days ahead of Uddhav Thackerey assuming the office. Former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had Fortuner SUVs in his security detail.
