Autocar records first 0-300kph time in a Mercedes-AMG GT R

Autocar India has completed the first instrumented 0-300kph run in a controlled test environment at the recently inaugurated NATRAX (National Automotive Test Tracks) proving ground near Indore, in Madhya Pradesh. The milestone was achieved on NATRAX’s High Speed Track (HST), behind the wheel of a 585hp, Mercedes-AMG GT R supercar.

  • Mercedes-AMG GT R covered 2.058km during the 0-300kph run
  • NATRAX proving ground covers 2,900 acres
  • NATRAX High Speed Track measures 11.3km

At the hands of Autocar India’s testers, the Mercedes-AMG GT R took just 3.69 secs to reach 100kph covering 55.48m while 200kph was dispatched in 10.99 secs and 385m. The supercar hit the 300kph mark in 33.03 secs, covering a distance of 2.058km in the process. Click here to see the full video of the 0-300kph run.

The record was set at NATRAX’s High Speed Track, which measures 11.3km. It is one of the few places in the world which is long enough to attempt a 0-300kph timed acceleration run.

The Mercedes-AMG GT R is powered by a 4.0-litre V8 engine that produces 585hp and 700Nm of torque and is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Mercedes claims a 0-100kph time of 3.6sec and the top speed is 318kph.

NATRAX: more details

NATRAX is the fifth largest proving ground in the world, covering 2,900 acres. The NATRAX centre has multiple test capabilities like measurements of maximum speed, acceleration, constant speed fuel consumption, emission tests through real road driving simulation, high-speed handling and stability evaluation during manoeuvre such as lane change and high-speed durability testing among others and is a centre of excellence for vehicle dynamics.

The 11.3km NATRAX High Speed Track (HST) is said to be the longest such track in Asia and the fifth largest globally. Vehicles can attain a maximum speed of 375kph on curves with steering control and the track has a gentle banking on the long parabolic curves, making it one of the safest test tracks globally.

Being centrally located in Madhya Pradesh, the NATRAX HST is accessible to most of the major OEMs and will even be open in a limited manner to enthusiastic drivers.
