Tata Altroz-based sedan in the works: Details ahere

One of the most anticipated car from Tata Motors

his year was the Altroz hatchback. It is Indian manufacturer’s first premium hatchback an it competes with cars like Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20 and so on.

It is the only car in the segment to get a 5-star rating in the Global NCAP crash tests. The car has already been launched and has become popular among buyers in a very short span of time. Reports are now coming that Tata Motors is planning to manufacture a sedan that will be based on Altroz Premium hatchback.

Tata Motors has started working on a sedan that will be based on Altroz’s ALFA platform. The sedan that Tata Motors has allegedly started working on will also follow Tata’s signature 2.0 design philosophy and will have design cues from the E-Vision sedan concept that was unveiled at 2018 Geneva Auto Show.

The reason why Tata Motors has chosen the ALFA platform is because it is very flexible. The platform has been designed in a way to accommodate different body styles like hatchback, sedan, MPV, SUV. The ALFA platform allows generates more space on the inside as it has a flat floor. Altroz is one of the vehicles that uses ALFA platform and upcoming micro-SUV Hornbill or the micro SUV based on the HBX concept showcased at the Auto Expo this year will also use the same platform.

Design-wise we expect it is likely to get a similar treatment as that of the Maruti Dzire, Hyundai Aura, Hyundai Xcent which is eventually a sedan version of the Swift, Grand i10 Nios and Grand i10. The only difference would be that the Altroz based sedan will not be a compact sedan and will compete with cars like Maruti Ciaz, Honda City and Hyundai Verna.

The report doesn’t say anything about the engine of the Altroz based sedan but we expect to see the same set of engine from the Altroz hatchback in the sedan as well. It might get the 1.2 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 1.5 litre diesel engine paired to a manual or an automatic gearbox. There is no news on when Tata would be launching this vehicle in the Indian market.
