2020 Triumph Street Triple RS India launch on April 22
Triumph India will launch the new Street Triple RS on April 22, 2020. The new bike was supposed to go on sale in the last week of March; however, the COVID-19 crisis forced the company to postpone the launch. The motorcycle manufacturer will announce the model’s price on its official Twitter handle and may subsequently open bookings online, given that auto showrooms and other establishments are shut due to the ongoing nationwide lockdown.
The 2020 Triumph Street Triple RS is one of the most highly anticipated motorcycles in recent times, owing to its stellar performance and top-spec components. We rode the bike a few months ago and were impressed with what Triumph has managed to achieve with the RS. It isn't an all-new motorcycle but bears significant improvements over the previous Street Triple RS.
The big change is the updated, 765cc, liquid-cooled, in-line-triple engine that produces 123hp and 79Nm of torque (up by 2Nm from the previous model's 77Nm). Besides the increase in torque, the motor develops a stronger mid-range as well, which has improved tractability to quite an extent. Paired to a 6-speed gearbox with an up/down quickshifter, the new RS offers ballistic performance for a street naked.
The styling has been tweaked a little, to lend it a dose of aggression while the colour TFT display has been updated with new graphics, Bluetooth connectivity and GoPro controls; the latter is available through an accessory chip.
Triumph continues to offer track-ready components on the new generation of the Street Triple RS. The model is fitted with Brembo M50 Monobloc calipers, a fully adjustable Showa fork and an Öhlins STX40 rear monoshock. It’s also shod with Pirelli’s latest-generation Supercorsa SP V3 tyres; and while the electronic rider aids are good, an IMU is lacking.
While we wait for Triumph India to announce the price of the new Street Triple RS, our guess is that Triumph won't go too far off the current-gen's price – Rs 11.13 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
As far as competition goes, the Street Triple RS will go head to head with the new KTM 890 Duke R, which is also set to go on sale in India. This is surely going to be an interesting battle.
