Mahindra Scorpio BS6: Specifications & variant details revealed ahead of launch
Mahindra Scorpio was launched in the Indian market back in 2002. Ever since its launch Scorpio has been very popular in the segment and Mahindra had put timely efforts to keep the vehicle fresh in terms of styling. Even after so many years of its initial launch Mahinra Scorpio has not lost its butch character and has ample road presence that people are generally looking from an SUV. Just like any other manufacturer Mahindra is also working of BS6 vehicles and have launched BS6 XUV300 and Bolero. Mahindra will soon be launching the BS6 version of the Scorpio in the market once the current situation in the country improves.
Meanwhile Mahindra has revealed the specifications of the soon to be launched BS6 Scorpio on their website. The SUV will see a couple of changes in the BS6 avatar. With BS6 update Mahindra has decided to discontinue the base S3 trim and will only be available in four trim levels of S5, S7, S9 and S11. There are changes in terms of engine options as well. The BS4 version was available with a 75 Bhp generating 2.5 litre diesel, 120 Bhp producing 2.2 litre diesel and a 140 Bhp 2.2 litre diesel engine. With the BS6 Mahindra has now decided that the Scorpio will be available with a 2.2 litre mHawk diesel engine only that generates 140 Bhp and 320 Nm of peak torque. The base variant S5 will be available with a 5-speed manual gearbox whereas the trims above that will have the 6-speed manual gearbox.
With the BS6 update another change that we would see in the Scorpio is that it no longer will get a the 4WD system. Apart from these everything else remains the same on the Mahindra Scorpio. Design-wise it still has that large headlamps and imposing grille at the front with Mahindra logo on it. It is decently loaded with features like a touchscreen infotainment system, reverse parking camera, faux leather seats and so on.
Mahindra is also working on next-generation Scorpio and it has been spotted testing on our roads a couple of times. It is likely to be launched in the market in the first financial quarter of 2021. The next-generation Scorpio is expected with both petrol and diesel engines. Both manual and automatic gearboxes are likely to be offered with both engines. The new version is likely to shift to a totally new platform that it will share with the 2020 Thar, which will make it debut later this year.
