Skoda Karoq compact SUV: What to expect

Skoda showcased the Karoq at the Auto Expo 2020 which shares its MQB platform with the Volkswagen T-Roc. The Karoq will sit below the Kodiaq in the line-up and whereas the Kodiaq is a 7-seater, the Karoq will be a 5-seater. As the launch date of Karoq is coming close, we share some things that you can expect from the Skoda’s mid-size SUV.

It will be petrol only
We know that VW group is trying to reduce its emissions so just like the T-Roc, the Skoda Karoq will come only with a single 1.5-litre petrol engine. The engine produces a max power output of 150 PS and a peak torque output of 250Nm. It will be offered with a single automatic gearbox which will be Skoda’s 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic which is known to be fast responding and smooth. There might be a CNG option in the future but that is not yet confirmed by Skoda. 
CBU Unit

initially, Skoda Karoq will be imported as a Completely Built Unit (CBU). Further down the line, Skoda may shift the process to the assembly line with completely knocked down (CKD) kit. Recent relaxations by Government allows Skoda to import 2,500 units annually without going through the homologation process.
A mini Kodiaq
The Karoq looks and feels like a mini Kodiaq, it comes with the same butterfly grille upfront and sleek LED headlamps. The side profile consists of the strong and simple shoulder lines which we have seen on other Skoda models and 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. At the rear, there is C-shaped wraparound LED tail lamps.
Feature loaded

Skoda is known for loading its cars with features and “simply clever” touches and the Karoq will be no different. It will be equipped with ambient lighting, leather upholstery, 9 airbags, dual-zone climate control and much more. The touchscreen infotainment system will come with Android Auto, Miracast, Apple CarPlay and connected car tech. There will also be a panoramic sunroof to open a sense of space in the cabin. The driver will get a digital instrument cluster just like Audi’s virtual cockpit.
Price
Skoda is known to price its cars at a premium and the Karoq will also be priced higher when compared to its rivals. One reason for the additional premium is Karoq being a CBU import. It is expected to price around Rs. 20 lakhs. There will only be one fully loaded variant available and the dealerships have started taking pre-booking amount of Rs. 50,000.
Once launched, Skoda Karoq will go against Jeep Compass, the MG Hector, and the Hyundai Tucson. Considering the premium quality of materials and features on offer, the Karoq will be a worthy opponent. Karoq will also attract the buyers who want something exclusive, as the number of sales of the SUV will be limited.
