Tata Motors wants to partner a Chinese automaker: Here’s why!

Tata Motors has been making an effort to improve its image in the market and in another step in the direction, the brand will soon be partnering with a Chinese manufacturer.

Tata Motors will soon be getting into an alliance with Chinese car manufacturer Chery. This partnership is not an entirely new thing. Tata Motors, which now owns the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) brands, is already in a partnership with Chery brand in Chinese market. As per the report, Tata Motors has not made an official announcement of the same as they are considering competing offers from other Chinese manufacturers too. However, the chances of Chery getting into a Joint Venture with Tata Motors seems high.

This partnership will help Tata Motors in many way. In future, when the partnership comes into effect, Chery will be the technology partner and will also act as an investor. This is one of the many benefits from this partnership as Tata Motors will be getting access to more funds and technologies that we would get to see in future Tata cars. Sharing technology also means that Tata will be saving money as they won’t have to waste time developing a new one.

Chery has number of models internationally and with this partnership Tata might get access to them as well. Tata Motors might use the platforms developed by Chery to build future Tata cars, one of which is likely to be the Blackbird compact SUV, which will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. This again would be of great help to the Indian manufacturer as Tata won’t have to spend a lot of its resources on developing a new platform. This partnership would be focusing on electric vehicles that are gaining popularity in the market. As Chery will be the technology partner we might get to see more and more Electric Vehicles from Tata in future. Along with EVs, this partnership is also expected to focus on regular internal combustion (IC) engines.

Tata Motors is one of the popular car brands in India and has lately become more popular among buyers thanks of a bunch of factors: good design, robust build quality and affordable pricing. Tata Motors has become synonymous with safe cars in the country. Tata Motors’ Nexon compact SUV was the first car in the Indian market to get a 5-star crash test rating in the global NCAP tests. Tata Tigor, Tiago are also among the safer cars in their respective segments. The recently launched Altroz, which is Tata’s first premium hatchback also scored a 5-star crash test rating.
