Considering the fact that we are currently spending a lot of time on our couches, scrolling through our Netflix account or TV channels, looking for things to watch, there’s another great way for petrolheads to while away time – play racing games. What we have here is our top 5 racing game picks that all petrolheads must have on their phones!
1. CSR Racing
Bored with driving around corners but still want to play a racing game? This cellphone arcade racing game is one of the most popular ones out there and for good reason. Drag racing is one of the simplest and most primal forms of motorsport, and CSR Racing exploits the love of going fast in a straight line to the max! With a variety of cars you can tune up and race – all the way from simple hatchbacks to full-fledged hypercars – CSR racing is a whole bunch of fun.
2. Real Racing 3
Real Racing is to phones what Gran Tourismo is to PlayStation. Possibly the most detailed racing games on any mobile phone platform out there today, Real Racing has real tracks, real cars and real tuning parts that make it an immersive experience. And with hundreds of cars to choose from, from nearly every brand in the world, you never find it be short of different experiences. The game was released in 2013, but even today it continues to be one of the best racing games. With continuous updates and no sight of a sequel, we think it will continue to occupy the top step of the podium for a while.
3. Asphalt 9
The Asphalt series of games is like a ‘Need For Speed’ for your phone. It’s a good old-fashioned fun arcade racer, and the latest is the best one yet. Apart from offering a plethora of tracks and a huge number of cars to choose from, there is also a fair bit of customisation for the player to indulge in. My favourite bit? The fact that you can hold the car in a sideways slide, corner after corner.
4. Hill Climb Racing 2
If you want a simple, no-nonsense game that doesn’t drain your phone’s battery life or take up a huge amount of space, Hill Climb Racing 2 is possibly the most fun pick. From SUVs to snowmobiles, to bikes and even a tank, the goal is simple – set the fastest time across a course without flipping your vehicle over the inclines and declines. And while the graphics are simple and the game is in two-dimension, as compared to everything else on this list, we promise you it is as much fun.
5. Grid Autosport
GRID Autosport is another simulation-type racer, and probably the only other game on a mobile platform that gives Real Racing 3 a run for its money. While the game isn’t free, the initial money spent (Rs 799 on iOS) is worth every penny with the option of over 100 tracks and 100 cars to choose from. Street cars, thoroughbred race cars and more, GRID Autosport has an array of options for you to choose from, and with realistic graphics and handling, it is a fine game indeed. Especially good if you want to set some personal lap records.
