Honda Goldwing gets Android Auto

  • Update available at no extra cost

  • Compatible with phones that have android 5.0 or above

  • Apple CarPlay already available since 2017

Honda has announced that the current-generation Goldwing will get Android Auto connectivity, and that the update will be available from mid-June 2020 onwards, starting with the US market. All Goldwings manufactured from 2018 onwards can get the software update, at no extra costs.

Honda also adds that customers with smartphones running Android 5.0 and above can easily pair it to the Goldwing's infotainment screen after loading the software update. Some of the advantages of Android Auto include a neat and simple user interface, easy-to-use voice actions, Google assistant and more. One can also access media, music and messages, making it very convenient, especially on long journeys.

While the introduction of Android Auto is a welcome addition for Goldwing owners with Android smartphones, those with Apple smartphones didn't have to worry at all, as the current-generation of the tourer was available with Apple CarPlay right from the year 2017.

The Honda Goldwing is an accomplished tourer, powered by a 1,883cc flat-six engine that produces 126hp at 5,500rpm and 170Nm of torque at 4,500rpm. The 2020 motorcycle gets a few updates that are said to make it even better than it was. Unveiled at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show, the new Goldwing features an optimised fuel injection system for improved low-speed manoeuvrability. Along with that, the new Goldwing also gets an updated 7-speed DCT transmission that's smoother and quieter in its operations.

Expect the Android Auto upgrade to make it to Goldwings in other markets, including India, in the coming months.
