Upcoming Citroen C5 Aircross to get a 2.0 litre diesel engine only
French car manufacturer Citroen was planning to launch their first product C5 Aircross SUV in the Indian market later this year but, due to the current situation in the country, the brand has decided to postponed the launch of SUV. The C5 Aircross will now be launched in the first quarter of 2021. Citroen which is part of Groupe PSA had already showcased the car to media last year. Now, as we are getting more close to the launch, more details are surfacing about the upcoming SUV. The latest information about the Citroen C5 Aircross is that the car will be launched with a diesel engine only.
The Citroen will be getting the C5 Aircross a 2.0 litre turbocharged engine. Earlier it was assumed that the C5 will be offered with a 1.5 litre diesel engine that is capable of generating 131 Bhp. But now, Citroen has opted to go for more powerful 2.0 litre diesel engine that generates a maximum of 180 Bhp. The C5 Aircross will get an 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission as standard.
The 2.0 litre diesel engine will not be manufactured in India and will be imported. This will definitely affect the pricing of the car overall. With more powerful engine and features onboard, Citroen C5 Aircross is likely to be offered as a premium SUV from the brand. The car has a unique design at the front with signature Citroen logo integrated grille. Unlike other SUVs that we have seen so far, C5 Aircross has smoothly curved edges.
International version of the SUV offer features like panoramic sunroof, 8.0 inch touchscreen infotainment screen, dual-zone climate control, hands-free tailgate, digital instrument cluster, electronic parking brake, six airbags and so on. If the Citroen is planning to offer it as a premium SUV then most of the features available in the international spec version is likely to be offered in India as well. Citroen has a C-Cube program under which the brand plans to launch a new vehicle every year till 2023. The vehicle launched under this program will be designed, developed and manufactured in India and will also be launched here first. Citroen will use Hindustan Motors’ Tiruvallur factory to begin its Indian operations. The French brand has also bought out rights to build the Ambassador sedan from Hindustan Motors. The French automaker has not indicated a timeline for the resurrection of the Ambassador brand though. The Ambassador is likely to make a comeback as an electric vehicle.
