It still has a cult following and is one of the motorcycle that many motorcycle collector’s have in their garage. We have seen many restored and modified examples of this iconic machine in the past. Here we have a video that shows the whole process of restoring an old Yamaha RX100. The restored motorcycle looks beautiful.

The video has been uploaded by Old Pistons Garage on their youtube channel. The video starts by showing the motorcycle that has not received any of the restoration work. As it is an old motorcycle, there is lot rust on various parts of the body. The paint work on the motorcycle has also faded.

Before starting any work on the motorcycle, the workshop dismantles each and every part of the motorcycle. They first remove the seat, then the side panels, fuel tank, battery, speedometer, mudguards, headlamp, carburetor, engine, handle bar and finally the chassis of the bike is only left. All the parts are seperately restored for better results. The mudguard on the RX 100 had chrome plating and it had lost the shine over the years. The mudguard was buffed and it looked as good as a new one.

The stock paint on the RX 100 was red but the restored version gets a new colour. The restored version gets a shade of blue which looks classic on the the motorcycle. video shows the process of painting the fuel tank and side panels and the chassis of the motorcycle was also repainted. The video also showed that the engine of the motorcycle was repainted so that it looks like a new one.

The headlights on the rstored version were replaced for a new projector LED units with round DRL inside the headlamp. The handle bar, switches, clutch and brake lever were all new and the seat of the bike was also restored. The rims, front and rear suspensions were all restored and the final product looks beautiful and is as good as a new one. This fully restored Yamaha RX100 is a beautiful example of how to modify an iconic motorcycle. There are a lot of two stroke motorcycles going cheap in the used bike markets as owners are no longer able to take care of them. So, if you want to resto-mod such motorcycles, you know where to look for them.
