Hyundai Creta is now India’s BEST selling car, for first time ever
Hyundai launched the all-new Creta in the Indian market earlier this year. The all-new Creta, which was launched in March, just before the lockdown is based on a new platform and looks completely different from the older model. However, due to the lockdown, the deliveries of the Creta has started recently and the manufacturers have also started dispatching the vehicles all through India. Hyundai has posted a number of 12,583 units in the month of May out of which, 6,883 units were sold in India. Hyundai Creta is reportedly the highest selling car in the Indian market last month.
According to GaadiWaadi, Hyundai has sold 3,212 units of the Creta in the market, which is way higher than the second-best-selling car in the market, which is a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. The third best-selling car in the Indian market in the month of June is the Maruti Suzuki Dzire at 2,215 units while the Mahindra Bolero and the Maruti Eeco take the fourth and fifth positions in the charts.
The Indian government announced one of the biggest lockdowns in the world due to the COVID-19. The lockdown caused the shutdown of shops, transportation and markets across the country. Even the manufacturing plants were shut down. However, with different phases, the restrictions were lifted over a period of time.

Hyundai launched the all-new Creta just before the lockdown and according to a previous statement by the company, they already have more than 22,000 bookings. However, due to the lockdown, the cars could not be delivered initially. As soon as the lockdown rules have been relaxed, manufacturers have started dispatching their vehicles across the country and have started the deliveries too.
Hyundai being on the top of the list on the sales chart does not indicate a future trend though. It is a mid-size SUV, which has a base price of close to Rs 10 lakh. Even though it is a great car, the Indian market is inclined towards the budget cars and they are much more popular and sell in massive numbers. Once the country opens completely and it is business as usual, we will likely to see the older trends of smaller and mid-size cars topping the sales charts again in the future.
The first-generation Hyundai Creta became extremely popular in the Indian market and the all-new model is likely to do the same. The all-new Creta offers three engine options – 1.5-litre petrol, 1.5-litre diesel and a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine. For the first time, the car also offers a 7-speed Dual-Clutch automatic transmission. The Creta offers Bose speakers and a massive panoramic sunroof along with many other first-time features.
