India’s FIRST ‘Maruti 800 to Jimny’ modification is here [Video]
Maruti 800 was a very popular and one of the most affordable cars ever sold by Maruti Suzuki in India. The manufacturer had put a stop on the production of Maruti 800 back in 2014 and the famous family hatchback was replaced with Alto 800. Even though the production has stopped for the vehicle, there are still some well maintained examples of the 800 in the country. Some of them have even modified the 800 to make it look more modern, with a retro boxy design. Here we have a video, where a Maruti 800 is modified to look like a Suzuki Jimny.
The video has been uploaded by MAGNETO 11 on their youtube channel. The video shows how a regular garage tries to modify a Maruti 800 to make it look like Suzuki Jimny. The car in the video started its life as a regular Maruti 800. The modification started off by chopping the roof of the hatchback. The front bumper of the car was also removed along with rear bumper, tail lights and headlights. The front bumper of the modified version was all fabricated at the workshop itself.

The front grille and headlight design did remind us of older generation Jimny. The bumper, front grille is all metal and the hood has also been modified. It now gets projector type LED headlamps and fog lamps and clear lens turn indicators. The side profile of the modified car reveals more about the car. The regular tyres have been replaced with chunkier looking tyres on steel wheels. The wheel arches have also been redesigned to accommodate bigger tyres. The ORVMs are new and the gate is now made from a metal frame.
The whole car is given a blue paint job and the dashboard gets a white tone with body coloured panels at places. The seats are replaced and it now gets side facing seats for rear passengers. At the rear, Maruti 800’s tail light is retained but, the bumper has been slightly redesigned for that SUV look. No changes are made to the engine of the car. Even though the car is not an exact replica of the Suzuki Jimny, the workshop has done a good job of modifying the Maruti 800 to look like a Jimny.
Maruti Suzuki showcased the latest generation Jimny this year at the Auto Expo. Maruti had plans to start production of Jimny here in India for international market. The plan got delayed due to the ongoing pandemic situation and once they start the production, Maruti might launch a 5-door version of Jimny here in India in next couple of years.
