1.25 lakh Kia Seltos compact SUVs sold in India since launch

South Korean car manufacturer Kia entered Indian market last year. They made their debut in the market with Seltos SUV which quickly became popular in the segment. It is a mid-size SUV that competes with cars like Hyundai Creta, MG Hector and Tata Harrier. Kia Seltos is a common sight on our roads and that is actually a proof that shows how popular this SUV has actually become in such a short span on time. Kia has now announced that they have sold over 1.2 lakh units of Seltos in India since its launch.

Kia Seltos is actually based on the SP concept SUV that was showcased at 2018 Auto Expo. Kia officially launched the Seltos SUV in the market back in August 2019. It is a global SUV and is available in other international markets as well. It became popular among buyers because of various reasons. One of the main reason was the looks. It is a bold looking SUV and had a very distinct look to it. Another reason is definitely the number of features that it was offering.

When launched, Kia Seltos came with several features that no other SUV in the segment offered during that time. It offered features like HUD, ventilated seats, blind spot detection camera and so on. The other reason behind its popularity was the wide spread dealership and service network and attractive price tag. Kia had introduced so many trim levels in Seltos that there is a Kia Seltos any type of buyer. All these factors helped increasing the popularity of this ne SUV in the market.

Kia Seltos is available with a variety of engine transmission options. It is available in Tech Line and GT Line versions. The Seltos is powered by a 1.5 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that comes with manual and IVT gearbox options. This engine generates 113 Bhp and 144 Nm of torque. Then comes the 1.5 litre turbocharged diesel engine that is available with manual and automatic gearbox options. It generates 113 Bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque. The last and the most powerful engine in the lot is the 1.4 litre turbocharged petrol unit. It is available with both manual and a 7-speed DCT gearbox. The engine generates 138 Bhp and 242 Nm of torque.

Kia Seltos 6

Kia recently launched the Anniversary edition of the Seltos with Orange coloured accents on the outside. Apart from Seltos, Kia has also launched their luxury MPV Carnival and the sub-4 meter compact SUV Sonet which is currently the least expensive model in the segment. However, the Seltos is the model that remains the most recognizable Kia car on Indian roads given the sheer volumes it has sold in. The Sonet may soon replace the Seltos as Kia Motors’ best seller as it has already begun outselling its bigger sibling. The Sonet is significantly cheaper than the Seltos, and this is a big reason for the sub-4 meter compact SUV is selling in such large numbers.
