This MASSIVE 74 wheel truck took 1 year to reach Kerala from Maharashtra: Here’s why [Video]

Ever saw slow-moving trucks on highways and mountains and wondered how much time will they take to reach its destination? Well, this gigantic truck took one year to cover a distance of about 1,700 km. It started its journey last year to reach its destination this year. Why did it so long? There is a good reason for it.

This Volvo FM12 Puller started its journey from Nashik, Maharashtra towards Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre in Kerala. The journey started in July 2019. The oversized cargo that the puller was carrying is a horizontal autoclave and because of its weight and size, the Volvo could travel only about 5 km on an average every day. That means to cover a journey of 1,700 km, it took about 340 days or almost a year! The vehicle got stranded for more than two months because of the lockdown imposed throughout India to contain the COVID-19.

An official who was involved in the movement said,

“”We’re using rope to carry cargo’s weight. It’s being pulled by two axels, front & back, both have 32 wheels each & puller has 10 wheels. Puller is pulling it all. Drop deck weighs 10 tonnes and cargo weighs 78 tonnes. Weight is being distributed in two axels,”

The machine weighs a massive 70 tonnes and has a height of 7.5 metres and has a width of 6.65 metres. The oversized cargo moved through ordinary roads and the roads had to clear out to make space. In some places, even traffic movement was stopped completely. At a few stretches, trees had to be fell and electric lines were disconnected for the movement of the gigantic truck. Due to the height of the cargo, transportation could not be done via ship or any other means. The cargo could not be dismantled for transportation too. This is why road transportation was preferred. The truck has a staff of around 32 people. Everyone involved in the movement of the truck ensured that the driver had a safe passage all through the 1,700 km journey.

The Volvo FM Series Puller is known for its massive torque and ability to move oversized cargos. While this is is one cargo that became popular after the journey took a year to reach its destination, there are numerous oversized cargos that take journeys through the Indian roads daily. The FM Series trucks are offered with two engine options. The lower-end variants get a maximum power output of 450 Bhp and peak torque output of 2,150 Nm. The more powerful versions offer a massive 12,800cc engine tha generates a maximum of 500 Bhp and 2,500 Nm of peak torque. All the models get 12-speed automatic i-Shift transmission system that detects the demand for torque and shifts to the ideal gear.
