KTM RC 8C track only motorcycle unveiled

KTM has introduced the RC 8C, a new track-only motorcycle based on the 890 Duke R.

KTM RC 8C: what is it?

The RC 8C is a track-only bike that has been jointly developed by the KTM Factory Racing Team and US-based Kramer Motorcycles. The idea behind it is to offer a racebike experience without the hassles of running or maintaining an actual GP bike

KTM RC 8C: engine

It's powered by the 890 Duke R's, 889cc, parallel-twin engine, producing 128hp and 101Nm. While it may not seem like a lot for a track bike, bear in mind that it's powering a bike that weighs just 140kg (dry). KTM adds that it chose a production-spec engine to manage parts availability and costs.

KTM RC 8C: design

The biggest attention draw on the RC 8C's design are undeniably the aerodynamic winglets on the front fairing. They bear an uncanny resemblance to those seen on the RC16, and that's no coincidence.

Other quirks include a fuel tank located under the rider's seat. In its usual place sits an air box instead.

KTM has managed to keep the weight low by employing various lightweight parts. This includes carbon-fibre fenders, a cast aluminium swingarm, and Dymag forged wheels. The engine itself has shed some weight by means of forged pistons and a cast aluminium crankcase.

KTM RC 8C: adjustability

The bike offers a wide range of adjustability to fit the rider as well as to suit the track. The pegs and bars are adjustable, and the headstock angle can be adjusted by one degree in either direction. The fork offset can also be altered between 26mm and 28mm.

KTM RC 8C: chassis

The Kramer-derived steel tube frame is suspended by an adjustable 43mm WP Apex Pro USD fork and a WP monoshock with preload adjustment.

Braking hardware consists of 290mm front discs with Brembo Stylema calipers and a 230mm rear disc. The bike also gets a Brembo 19RCS Corsa Corta radial master cylinder, which comes with three positions –normal, sport and race –to alter the response and bite point. The lightweight forged wheels mentioned earlier are shod with Pirelli Super Corsa 1 slick tyres.

KTM RC 8C: special package

Of the 100 lucky customers who'll manage to get their hands on the RC 8C, 25 customers can opt for an exclusive track experience. The package includes an extra pair of front and rear discs, an extra set of Dymag wheels, tyre warmers, KTM Race carpet, and front and rear paddock stands. The icing on top is track time with KTM riders Dani Pedrosa and Mika Kallio.
