Nissan Kicks Turbo Petrol BS6: Gearbox, mileage & other details leaked before launch

Japanese car manufacturer Nissan is all set to update their mid-size to meet the BS6 emission norms. Nissan had announced a couple of days ago that the Nissan Kicks that has been in the market for couple of years will be getting an update in terms of engine. The BS6 version of the Nissan Kicks will get a 1.3 litre turbocharged petrol engine which will be BS6 compliant. This new engine will make Kicks the most powerful mid-size SUV in the segment. Nissan Kicks competes with cars like Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos in the segment. More details regarding this new engine is now available.

The video has been uploaded by Pilot on Wheels on their youtube channel. The video gives full details on the upcoming BS6 version of the Nissan Kicks. We already know that the BS6 version of the Kicks will be available with segment’s most powerful turbo petrol engine. The 1.3 litre turbo petrol unit will generate a maximum of 156 Ps and 254 Nm of peak torque. Icing on the cake will be the 8-speed CVT gearbox that was missing in the SUV ever since its launch.

In addition to the existing features that the car had, BS6 Nissan Kicks will also get couple of segment first features like, an engine start switch on the remote and idle start stop system. The new engine Nissan Kicks is both powerful and is fuel efficiet too. The Kicks has an ARAI certified economy of 16.3 kmpl which is the second best after Hyundai Creta.

According to the video, Nissan won’t be launching the CVT gearbox in the top end XV premium (O) trim to maintain the price. The CVT will however be available in the XV and XV premium trim. Just like many other manufacturer in the country, Nissan is also moving away from diesel engines. They have completely dumped the older 1.5 litre diesel unit from the line up. The 1.5 litre naturally aspirated petrol is still available in the lower trims. Nissan is expected to start taking delivery of the BS6 Kicks from 15 May 2020 and the deliveries for the same will start once the nationwide lockdown is lifted.

Nissan had launched the Kicks in the market couple of years ago with high expectation but failed to grab attention because of its high pricing and lack of an automatic gearbox. With the BS6 version, Nissan is planning to come back in the game with a more powerful engine and a CVT gearbox. We will see the same engine in the Renault Duster as well in the future.
