Jawa & Jawa 42 BS6: Specifications revealed

Jawa Motorcycles made a comeback to Indian market back in 2018 through the Classic Legends brand. Classic Legends introduced two motorcycles initially in their lineup, namely Jawa or Jawa Classic, and a sportier Jawa 42. Both motorcycles were huge hits and had long waiting periods. Jawa motorcycles have always been special to people and many have great childhood memories with the brand’s two stroke motorcycles. Like other manufacturers, Jawa also updated their range to meet the new BS6 emission norms. The exact specification of the motorcycles have now been revealed and like many other vehicles, the BS6 versions of the Jawa motorcycles have gained weight, and also generate lower power than the BS4 counterparts.

Jawa had plans to make BS6 versions of these motorcycles available in the market by April but unfortunately due to spread of Corona virus and unexpected lockdown things got delayed. Details of both Jawa BS6 and Jawa 42 BS6 motorcycles have been revealed now. In terms of design, both motorcycle remain unchanged. Jawa or Jawa Classic gets the same old retro design with chrome elements, egg shaped head unit, and so on. The Jawa 42 is a sportier iteration of regular Jawa and does not get chrome elements on it. It has a different handlebar for a more upright riding position and gets a different stance altogether.

With BS6 update in place, weight of the motorcycle has gone up from 170 kilograms to 172 kilograms. Both motorcycles are powered by the same BS6 compliant 293-cc, single cylinder, fuel injected, liquid cooled engine that now generates 26.51 Ps and 27.05 nmof torque. This 0.86 Ps and 0.95 Nm less than the older BS4 version. Even after gaining 2 kilograms and losing some of its power, Jawa motorcycles are still lighter and powerful than their chief rival – the Royal Enfield Classic.

Prices for the BS6 versions have also gone up and the regular Jawa is now priced at Rs 1.73 lakh, ex-showroom and goes up to Rs 1.83 lakh, ex-showroom. The Price for BS6 Jawa 42 now starts at Rs 1.55 lakh, ex-showroom and goes up to Rs 1.69 lakh, ex-showroom. Jawa also launched a factory custom bobber Perak last year on their first year anniversary. Bookings for Perak had started and deliveries where expected to start from April this year. The lockdown has delayed that as well. The Perak is likely to hit showrooms by the end of this year, as India’s cheapest bobber motorcycle.
